There was a time,
I viewed being old as being 23
When the world was mine
And I always wanted to be free
Then came the laugh-lines
And the Sprinkle of cellulite
Where 40 seems prime
And worries don't include your height
A tank-top is now ridiculous
Clanging bangles make you think of a cow
Drinking a soda is you being spontaneous
And painfully strappy heels make you wonder 'How?'
You can now laugh by yourself
And raise a toast to the world
Sometimes even ask for help
Enjoying the woman who was once a girl
So white braids I will gladly give a rest
To pave way to my haircut and arched brows
Ear-ringed boys with muscle showing vests
Bye Bye now, you I have outgrown
For the years that have gone by
And changes that I have fought
For you I shall not cry
I have found what I always sought.
